At the end of October 2009, the Newtown Fire Association & Newtown Emergency Services Department reorganized their existing map box system to take into account the development of numerous new businesses, roads, developments, and hydrant systems in order to improve responses to areas and locate water supplies.
All areas covered by the Newtown Fire Association are designated with either a 45 or 55 number in the front, which helps to identify which fire station is closer to a dispatched emergency. For example, if firefighters are dispatched to a fire at Council Rock High School North, 911 dispatches firefighters to "Box 45-48", meaning the call is closer to the Newtown Borough firehouse (Station 45), and it appears on our page designated 45-48. If there is an accident with entrapment on Durham Road near North Drive, it will be dispatched as "Rescue Box 55-40", meaning the emergency is closer to the Newtown Towship firehouse (Station 55).
All of our fire apparatus, chief's vehicles, and our surrounding mutual aid fire companies are provided with these map books in order for them to locate specific areas to respond to upon being dispatched.
